Everything I've consumed *digitally* over the past two weeks
I love media! I'll say it!
Hi dear Readers. You may have noticed that this newsletter did not hit your inbox last week — or you didn’t notice and that is completely fine, I take no offense. I’m figuring out how to balance working as a magazine writer and being the CEO of Please Read Me and being a mom of two to my kitten Wylie and my OG cat Hoagie. It’s hard! So please, be patient with me.
All that being said, while I couldn’t find the time to write for you last week, I definitely found the time to consume a ton of media. Here’s what I scarfed down.
Watching
Ginny & Georgia - Listen, I’ve already watched this Netflix family drama twice, but as the third season is set to drop this week, I decided I needed to give it one more go. I love it. Georgia is a brazen single mom from the South and Ginny is her teen daughter. The show is more than it appears.
ER (still) - Yes, I’m still watching ER. There’s a lot of seasons to get through! Nearly all of the original cast is gone, but I find it just as good and culturally important. Read my essay on ER’s wokeness here.
Hacks - Okay, the fourth season of Hacks started really slow for me. I just hate it when Ava and Deborah are fighting. But, I stayed persistent and it turned around.
Overcompensating - I think I watched this show, created by Benito Skinner, in one day. It threw me back to freshman year of college, pregaming in small, sterile dorms, listening to Super Bass by Nicki Minaj.
And Just Like That - I’m happy Che Diaz is gone, but unhappy I had to endure a phone sex scene with Carrie and Aidan.
Mountainhead - The HBO movie by Succession creator, Jesse Armstrong, hooked me at first. But after an hour and fifteen minutes of watching four, truly despicable and out of touch billionaires talk about taking over the world, I had to turn it off.

Reading
Circe - A good book really is the best, isn’t it? I’m halfway through of this Greek mythological epic that centers around the daughter of the sun. It’s delicious and very informative — I’m learning so much about Greek mythology.
It’s, Like, This Little Cult of Being Skinny - Ugh, this piece in The Cut was depressing. Super interesting, but shows how little progress we’ve made in the body positivity/neutrality movement. The author, E.J. Dickson, investigates the TikTok banned influencer Liv Schmidt and her “Skinni Société” subscriber chat.
I Am So Tired Of Nathan Fielder’s Whole Thing - The title of this by
caught my attention, as I’ve never enjoyed Nathan Fielder. It deep dives into Fielder’s schtick, wrapping up by saying: “This show, and Fielder’s work so far, has nothing to offer me, and I have no desire to engage with it,” to which I say, ditto.

Listening
Cowboy Carter - On May 22, I went to the Cowboy Carter Tour at MetLife Stadium. Beyoncé continues to get better. The concert was amazing and I once again can’t stop listening to II Most Wanted.
Mo Amer on Armchair Expert - I loved getting to know the Palestinian comedian Mo Amer on this episode. He did a beautiful job reminding listeners that Palestinians, who are often held up in media as either solely victims or terrorists, as humans who laugh, cry, and love.
“Philly Justice” - Amy Poehler’s podcast, Good Hang, is one of the best new podcasts out there. On this episode, she interviews Parks and Rec creator Mike Shur about the iconic sitcom. But the best part is when Adam Scott and Rashida Jones call in for the world premier of the “Philly Justice” trailer, a fake legal drama they created while on set.
Kylie & Avril Lavigne on Sk8er Boi Movie, Kelce Party of 6 & The Most Suspicious Child - I’ve never seen a longer title for a podcast episode, but I enjoyed having Kylie Kelce back in my ears after her maternity leave. She chatted with punk legend Avril Lavigne, whose music I used to sing as I stared out rain soaked windows.
