Hurricane Huda mid crash out. Photo: Screenshot.

It’s 99 degrees Fahrenheit outside. I’m melting and being scolded by ConEdison to not run my air condition while they keep the lights on in Times Square.

There’s also, well, a war going on in the Middle East. So that’s stressful! Ha ha ha !

In between sweating and wishing for wars to stop, I’ve been distracting myself.

I’m a mommy, mamacita

Love Island USA season 7 is both excellent television and a torture mechanism. The show airs every day but Wednesdays and follows conventionally hot twenty somethings as they flirt, make out, and navigate very tense friendship dynamics.

The islander who’s become the most viral is Huda. Huda was coupled up with Jeremiah and is a mother, which is cool but the way she announces it is deeply troubling. She tells her fellow islanders about her kid the same way someone would announce they lost weight, secretive without actually getting to the point.

Instead of saying “I have a daughter,” Huda tells each islander, “I’m a mommy.” This gets mixed reactions, the best from Nic which goes like this:

"I'm a mommy," Huda told Nic.

"Mommy," he replied.

"I'm a mom," Huda reiterated.

"Mamacita," Nic said.

"No, I'm a mommy," Huda said for a third time.

"A mom of what? A dog?" Nic asked.

"I have a daughter," she finally said.

"Like in real life?" he asked.

"Yeah," she said.

"Like a daughter, like a real baby?" he asked.

"Yeah, like a human child," Huda clarified.

This blew up on TikTok and predated a historic crash out by Huda after she and Jeremiah were broken up by America.
