The sun is back and so am I
Also, I canvassed for Chi Ossé and learned how to actually make espresso

Last week, I skipped the State of the Union to catch up on The White Lotus. Ironically, both programs featured entitled, incorrigible, rich assholes. Unfortunately, one is actively ruining our country. But it felt necessary for me to disassociate from Trump’s speech. Of course, information from the night leaked into my brain. Al Green was the only Democrat to actually do something against the Republicans. The rest of the Democrats sat placidly in their seats holding little signs that read, “This is not normal.” Pathetic! It’s becoming clearer and clearer that we the people need to hold onto our joy while we can, because the country is crumbling around us.
Hello sun, I missed you
For most of my adulthood, I counted down the days until daylight savings. In journals littered around my apartment, I have pages and pages of numbers crossed out, waiting for the sun to come back to me. In those years, I worked at HRW in a job I truly, truly hated. I sat on my computer all day, doing menial tasks and staring at spreadsheets until I got a headache. The sun setting at four only made my reality worse.
But this year, I completely forgot about daylight savings. As a reminder for you Dear Reader, I quit my full-time in fundraising job last August to pursue something more creative. Since then, I’ve been managing social media accounts, writing, and of course, working at lululemon. And while I am currently poorer than I was last year, I cannot emphasize enough how much happier I am. I didn’t notice the sun setting so early because I am busy. I bounce from one neighborhood to another like a little bee pollinating the city.
My brain is full of creative ideas, no longer stifled by a bureaucratic, hellscape of an organization. I feel free and independent and excited. And with the sun back in town, now setting at 7pm, I am even more optimistic.
